About the Family
The WEPPER family received visas signed by Aristides de Sousa Mendes in Bordeaux on June 7, 1940, after their visas had been explicitly denied by Salazar, the Portuguese head of state.
The family emigrated first to Brazil, and subsequently sailed on the vessel Uruguay from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to New York in March 1948.
