About the Family
The OUNGRE family received their visas from Aristides de Sousa Mendes in Bordeaux on June 18, 1940.
The OUNGRE family crossed into Portugal. Dr. Louis OUNGRE was the Managing Director of the Jewish Colonization Association (ICA). His brother Edouard OUNGRE, Vice Manager of the Jewish Colonization Association and co-director of the HIAS-ICA Emigration Society, sailed from Lisbon to Brazil on the vessel Bagé (along with his wife Yvonne) in September 1941 to assist with refugee resettlement there. Renée OUNGRE and her daughter Jacqueline traveled on the Serpa Pinto from Lisbon to New York in June 1942.
