About the Family
Valentine KUROW and her mother Elena WISCHNEVSKY received visas from Aristides de Sousa Mendes in Bordeaux on June 5, 1940.
They crossed into Portugal and Valentine sailed on the ship Exeter from Lisbon to New York in August 1940. Elena traveled first to Havana, Cuba, and then in 1942 she rejoined her daughter in the United States, first arriving in Miami before moving to New York, where she settled. There she signed her name as Elena VISHNEVSKA.
