About the Family

These two visas were issued by Aristides de Sousa Mendes in Bordeaux on June 12, 1940.

Maria DE LEMPICKA, known as Kizette, was the daughter of the artist Tamara DE LEMPICKA and was the subject of many of her paintings. Lily KUFFNER was the artist's stepdaughter and was painted by her as well.

The two stepsisters crossed into Portugal and in July 1940 sailed on the Nea Hellas from Lisbon to New York, rejoining their parents.
