About the Family

The KARAFIOL family received a visa from Aristides de Sousa Mendes in Bordeaux on June 20, 1940.

They crossed into Portugal, where they resided in Lisbon. There they were joined by the father Moszek Pinchas KARAFIOL, who had been a prisoner of war in Switzerland.

After the family was reunited, they traveled from Lisbon to Brazil on the vessel Cuyaba in August 1941. From there they traveled to Trinidad, where they remained for several weeks. They sailed on the vessel Lady Hawkins from Trinidad to Halifax in November 1941. Finally, they traveled by train to Montreal, where they settled.
