About the Family

The HALPERN couple were in Toulouse in July 1940 and are presumed to have obtained Portuguese visas from Emile Gissot under the authority of Aristides de Sousa Mendes.

They crossed into Portugal and in January 1942 traveled on the vessel Serpa Pinto from Lisbon to the island of Jamaica, where they were interned at Camp Gibraltar.

In January of 1943 they arrived in Miami, Florida by airplane.
