About the Individual

Leon EISENBRUCH received a visa signed by Emile Gissot, the Portuguese consul in Toulouse acting under instructions from Aristides de Sousa Mendes, on June 20, 1940.

He crossed into Portugal, where he resided in Figueira da Foz. He met the BACK family in June 1941, while they were sailing together from Lisbon to New York on the vessel Serpa Pinto.

Leon EISENBRUCH later married Sousa Mendes visa recipient Hilda BACK.
